Original release german movie poster for the hungarian film, app size 23x36 in. I have not seen this poster before and it might well be the only surviving copy. Rolled, light foxing in background, a small tear in the A of ALRAUNE has been repaired. Very appealing overall. To my best knowledge, ALRAUNE was the first female movie monster ever. It's a shame that she is entirely forgotten today.
The film was based on the extremely popular novel by Hanns Heinz Ewers that was published in 1911. Unfortunately, this is another lost film, and there are contemporary reviews or anything to be found, so we will never know if it was any good. This is not to be mistaken with the german ALRAUNE film that also came out in 1919 and was released as SACRIFICE in the US. That version has survived, but is apparently more of a ghost story with no real connection to the book. With Gyula Gál, Rózsi Szöllösi, Kálmán Körmendy, directed by Michael Curtiz (as Mihály Kertész).
